James "Jimmy" Maguire Sr., affectionately known as "The Chief" on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, is retiring today after spending over 60 years on Wall Street.

Maguire, 81, will ring the Closing Bell today at the Big Board in celebration of his retirement from the trading floor, the NYSE said on its website.

Maguire began his Wall Street career in September 12, 1949 as a clerk when he was 18 years old.

He took a break from Wall Street to serve as a tank gunner and driver during the Korean War

He returned to work at the American Stock Exchange before eventually moving to the NYSE floor.

Maguire is known on The Street for being the specialist for Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway stock (BRK.A and BRK.B). He's been responsible for making the market in that specific stock since it listed on the NYSE.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Buffett has referred to him as the world's greatest specialist.
